Celebrity Red Carpet Makeup & Hair Whitney Cummings

I recently had the pleasure of doing makeup & hair on another one of my favorite funny ladies, Whitney Cummings. If I didn't know better, I'd say I'm starting to become the female comics makeup artist. First Sarah Silverman, then Margaret Cho, Parker Posey and now Whitney Cummings? You may remember Whitney from Chelsea Lately's roundtable, or "roasts" of Joan Rivers, David Hasselhoff, and Donald Trump. Her next project is an NBC sitcom called appropriately "Whitney". I met Whitney at her hotel, her face scrubbed clean, and could not get over how flawless her skin was! She is absolutely gorgeous, the Angelina Jolie of comedy. She has the most beautiful alabaster skin, unlike most LA women she isn't sprayed orange or tanned, so I wanted to let her true complexion shine through. Since her skin was already moisturized, I started with KohGenDo's Makeup Color Base in green, just to tone down any redness Then I used Aqua Foundation in PK

Featured Blog

My blog was featured on one of my Top favorite makeup sites ! I consider it quite an honor because I am absolutely in LOVE LOVE LOVVVVVE with their products. Honestly, to hear me talk about them on set, you would think they are paying me to (ummm, ps. they're not, but what a great idea!).There is not a foundation that I have ever used that makes for a more flawless, natural look.I like to say "it's as if tiny lightbulbs are under your skin" and I haven't met one person that disagrees with me after seeing themselves. Whether it be a model or celebrity or a bride, if I want the perfect dewey finish the only products that even come to mind are the Moisture Foundation and The Natural Lighting Powder.....and here I go again, singing their praises, I can't help myself, and it's contagious.Oliva Palermo tied with Madonna for " Most Commanding red carpet look and loved how I did her makeup, Parker Posey loved it so much she carried it in her handbag on set

It Makes A MommaBird Proud

I can honestly say, that some of the most memorable moments of my makeup career, were not on set meeting my favorite celebrities, but instead meeting a group of students that would forever change my life. I was asked to teach at one of the most prestigious makeup schools. I jumped at the opportunity ! What I encountered, was part legend, part insane assylum, and all worth every minute! I have to admit, my first day I was nervous as hell! Who did I think I was ? I was a working artist, I had taught before, but never in such a formal setting. I was thrown to the lions without a curriculum. How was I going to be the teacher that they needed, that they expected? All I could think about was the sign on my bulletin board that I had cut out of a magazine... I could only hope that I didn't let them down. As the weeks went on, I realized that I had found a new love! My passion for makeup could finally be transferred. I could talk about Makeup all day, and nobody rolled their eyes and

Another peek into my makeup kit ....Foundation for Women of Color

A quick note on another foundation favorite - The Iman products are fantastic! I am using them on Xosha Roquemore,(from the movie Precious) The "Luxury Radiance Liquid Makeup" not only stays fresh take after take, but combined with the "Second to None Semi-Loose Powder" I no longer have to worry about constant touch ups. I love the packaging as well because I don't have to worry about spillage thanks to the unique razor sifter, and it always dispenses the perfect amount.  I noticed a difference in her skin the very second I used the foundations on her! I used both the Clay and the Earth, but instead of mixing it together I used the lighter color on her cheekbones, the bridge of her nose and her chin to highlight, the darker color on the other areas of her face to contour and her face not only took on more dimension but lit up ! I then used them on a photoshoot to see how it held up on print...... The inspiration for this look was Diana Ross.I think you'

My side venture - Belly to Belly ....

Recently I've decided to start a side venture, Body Casting. I realized I enjoyed casting and sculpting years ago, but never actualized it. It took my sister's pregnancy to realize that there is indeed a market for this. Once upon a time, someone thought it was a good idea to take baby shoes and dip them in bronze. Wouldn't it be more special to celebrate a woman's pregnancy? What better way than to have a cast of her belly? Here's a video of me casting my sister's belly bump. Keep in mind this cast is still in the raw stages. I will be finishing and sanding as well as casting her hands to lay on the belly.  Anyone interested in having a belly cast done in the privacy of their own home should contact me at    daives@aol.com

I made the cover !

A peek inside my makeup kit ........or .......... My desert island list

First and formost....The Foundation   I'm giving away secrets here so pay attention--LOL Over the years I've tried just about every foundation, MAC, Blasco, RCMA, (including the dept store brands for personal use)one brand leaves these all in the dust....(say it with me kids), KohGenDo. I was introduced to KohGenDo a few years ago while doing makeup for the VMA's. I got rave reviews and lots of them, and knew that there was no going back.  Recently while doing a camera test for the movie "Price Check", I met this DP who told me "listen, you and I are probably not going to be friends, i hate the look of makeup on my actors, I hate seeing it in my lens, oh and I'm shooting HD, keep that in mind". WOW! Ps....I'm sure you can guess how this ends. He came up to me afterward and asked me to write down which products I used because he couldn't believe how gorgeous the skin looked. That was it, I was out to show them all I was using "th
