As the Makeup Department Head for the upcoming film "Girl On The Train", written and directed by Larry Brand (Halloween: Resurrection) I called on my good friends at MAC for some inspiration for the female lead. Because she is playing a "mystery woman" I wanted to give her very different looks, from very natural to very dramatic. I chose the following palette....

Carbon, i use this over my pencil liners to soften and smudge, Copperplate, this is beautiful in the crease and doubles as a soft eyebrow color, Rice Paper, the perfect base color for a natural eye, and  Vibrant Grape for an intense pop of color.
Goldenrod, again for a dramatic pop of color
Dazzlelight a shimmering natural base
and Espresso for the crease and to soften pencil liner.
Russian Red and Lady Bug, Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Soulfully Rich, Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Supremely Confident and Gotta Dash,

Who doesn't love Russian Red? A gorgeous matte red that looks flawless every time, as far as I'm concerned this is a staple that should be in every woman's arsenal. As my grandmother used to say "youre never fully dressed without a red lipstick".
Lady Bug, a sheer red that looks at home on all skin tones.
Soulfully Rich is a new one for me. I plan on using this with a nude eye to accentuate her lips and really bring the drama!
I'll do the exact opposite with Supremely Confident, a super sheer nude for when all the emphasis is on her smokey eyes.
Gotta Dash reminds me of South Beach and all the beauties who can't even imagine getting a tan without the perfect pout. I'll be using this for her tropical look. Black Tea is a gorgeous sheer color that looks great layered on top of a lipstick or as a tint of color all alone,  and finally Lust Lipglass for an everyday look.
I'm in love with this concealer- the coverage is amazing and it feels light as air!
I can't say enough about these pigments! this is used dry and the color wants to jump right off my arm! Also, it comes in this great stack-able quad that I just love ! I'm thinking sugar-plum fairy, disco queen
Finally because I'm a huge fan of cake eyeliner I chose Fluidline Eyeliner Gel, I love the control I have with this and depending on the brush i use I can go with a thin line along the lashes or a more dramatic doe eyed look.
The Pearlglide Intense Eyeliner is the perfect liner for a smokey eye. It goes on smooth as silk and stays put!

I'll be including pictures as I go along, so stay tuned for updates from the set!

Time for Me

I’ve been purchasing makeup tools for my personal use lately, my kit is stocked so now it’s time to take care of me! Being that I’m getting older and spend about 80 percent of my life with my face in my phone, I thought a good magnifying mirror was the way to go.  My latest purchase was a Trifold Table Makeup Mirror  here’s why; it’s got 4 different magnifications 10x/3x/2x/1x, (so I can see EVERYTHING even without my glasses on, it folds up for easy travel, and rotates 180 degrees, and has 21 LED lights powered by a usb cord which is included or 4 AA batteries (for on the go makeup).  While I like the ability to see all my flaws in different magnifications, (lol) the one drawback for me were the LED lights which I didn’t feel put out enough to actually illuminate the face and I noticed that I kept turning the mirror towards the window for a natural light source. All in all , I like the mirror and think it’s a great value for the price, I just wish the ...

The long awaited post about THE MAKEUP SHOW !

I know, I know,..... it's been forever since my last post, and I could make excuses and say " a cross country move, a breakup, another move, (not necessarily in that order)...sometimes life gets in the way"..... but truth be told, I got sooooo much loot at the makeup show that I wanted to be able to actually use it, and not just on myself, but on my clients, so that when I spoke to you about it, I'd actually have something to say. So without further adieu, I give you ..... The Makeup Show LA Bloggger Bag There was so much in this "goodie bag" that I almost don't know where to start.  I have a few favorites that I could go on and on about so I'll leave those for last. Annabella Sciorra & Gypsy Sparkle

One of the perks of doing hair and makeup for Hollywood Royalty, is the ability to bring people together who's paths might otherwise never have crossed.....  Such is the case with Annabella Sciorra (@ASciorra) and my sister's company, Gypsy Sparkle (@GypsySparkle).  As many of you know I am working with the mega-star on a new feature film called "The Maid's Room", where I am the Dept. Head of Makeup & Hair. Annabella was  picked as this years Mermaid Queen at the 30th Anniversary Mermaid Parade, in Coney Island ! As a Brooklyn native, I grew up loving this parade & everything Coney! For those of you that don't know about the parade, here's a little background.   click here for info about The Coney Island Mermaid Parade The Mermaid Parade celebrates the sand, the sea, the salt air and the beginning of summer, as well as the history and mythology of Coney Island, Coney Island pride, and artistic self-expression.
