Which Makeup Case Is For You ?

Okay, okay, okay.....i promise to blog more, and not get so caught up in work and getting work. So instead of big long winded ( ehem, that's my middle name ) posts, from now on you're getting more stream of consciousness blurbs and random thoughts. Like this one- I was on one of my Facebook group pages and responded to this post when halfway thru I realized, "this is such a common question I should do a blog post about it" So thanks to Misty Deupree for the inspiration Misty Deupree What is a good makeup (traveling) case that has a lot of compartments and space? The Makeup Show - wrapping up part two

I've been going to The Makeup Show NY since day one, and every year after, so it was strange seeing it in my new home, LA. To help make this an unforgettable event, one of my besties & fellow beauty blogger, Stephanie (@newbeautyreview) flew in from Arizona, and we were special guests of one of the artists I look up to most, makeup legend Sharon Gault, known to most of us simply as MamaMakeup (@Mama_Mu_Sharon). Every show that Steph & I have ever gone to together, (and I think that's almost all of them), has been legendary, this was no exception. with David from OCC @ occmakeup with (@ JeffreeStar ) & Doe Deere  creative goddess behind LimeCrime @limecrime Lemme throw some pictures at you, just so you see what this amazing little circus is really is like, at a show! Dyana on TV as the On Camera Beauty Expert for TLC's Covershot

So, I was playing around with some of my footage, trying to teach myself how to edit, and I saved some footage of me on TLC network's CoverShot as the On Camera Beauty Expert. Now for those of you that have never seen the show, it's similar to Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, but closer to "mommy needs a makeover". It was such an amazing experience doing this show! At the end of each show, not only did our hero get a confidence boosting makeover, but she got to see herself on a giant billboard in Times Square ! So without further adieu, I give you my first edit....Dawn

The Swiss Army Knife of Lipcolor - Covergirl Blast Flipstick

As a makeup artist, I've been doing this trick for years...combining two colors to compliment each other, or to make a totally new color. Covergirl has brought this to the masses with their new product Blast Flipstick. One shade is matte, one shade is shimmer, you can mix/ match or combine. The lipstick goes on smooth and silky and lasts for hours. The best part is I only need one tube in my tiny purse when I go out at night. Very cool!  *DISCLAIMER - This was not a paid testimonial, all products were furnished free of charge for this review

Burt's Bees Intense Hydration

My latest buzz kit was Burt's Bees Intense Hydration products. I received 3 full size products; Cream Cleanser, Treatment Mask, and Night Cream with Clary Sage, a remarkable botanical that thrives in its harsh environment because of its ability to retain moisture. With the colder months approaching, it's important for your skin to stay hydrated so I was excited to try these products. The Cream Cleanser ($10) is amazing ! After using a wash cloth to massage is in, I was surprised to see how it literally melted off my makeup! I decided to do a little experiment... The next time I washed my face I used my regular gel cleanser , I always thought it was doing a good enough job of getting my makeup off. Then I used the Burt's Bees cream cleanser after my gel cleanser and once again, a wash cloth full of makeup - gross! I couldn't believe it, not only was my other cleanser not removing my makeup, but it was stripping my skin of the natural oils it needs to stay lubr...

Too Faced Cosmetics - Better Than False Lashes

When I was 14 years old, I had a really beautiful best friend, who was just a little bit evil too. Let's call her "Cher". She had the longest lashes I had ever seen! I had tried everything to get mine to look as long as hers; Baby powder under my mascara, Olive oil at night, layering, separating with a safety pin, nothing worked. Finally I asked her... "Cher, how can I get my lashes to look like yours, all long and fluttery"? She said, "you really wanna know"? "yes, I'll do it, just name it" I said. "Cut them" she said.. "cut them???" "Yup" she said "how short do I cut them?" "That depends, how long do you want them? The shorter you cut them the longer they'll grow" she told me. I raced home, ran to the mirror, and scissors in hand prepared to have super long, luxurious lashes, after all, I had cut them to the base, short as i could without bleeding. Long story short.....She got...

A moment for NYer's everywhere

This is a testament to all my friends and family back in NY & NJ that had to brave the storm that rocked them to their foundation, only to make them stronger. We are NYers, it takes a helluva lot more than terrorists and storms to break us! It's one of the things that I love about New Yorkers and what I've always been so proud of, is that after we've gone thru something together, it strengthens us, it makes us closer. I'll never forget the feeling of how connected I felt to my neighborhood, as a kid, after Hurricane Irene, we all emerged from our houses as if we were woken from a really long nap, and all gave each other a pat on the back as we acknowledged that yes, in fact, we had all gotten thru it unscathed. It was even greater when the Sept.11th attacks were over. I remember being so proud of my community for banding together and reaching out to each other. For once putting aside our differences like an old cup a'cawfee, and embracing our neighbors a...

Covergirl + Olay join forces

Anyone that reads my blog knows that I have no problem "playing favorites" but I am always willing to try something new, that's why I was excited when my BzzAgent assignment was COVERGIRL + OLAY Tone Rehab 2-in-1 Foundation & Pressed Powder. As a kid I remember saving my allowance & buying my first bottle of foundation (accompanied with a grape roll-on lip gloss!) at probably age 10, it was Covergirl and it smelled vaguely similar to Noxema. Now that I'm all grown up, it's part of my job to use only the best foundations, so I was actually pleasantly surprised at how Covergirl has grown up as well. Gone is the smell of Noxema, and it's a lot creamier than I remember! Maybe it's the Olay influence but this foundation is pretty awesome, it glides on and dries to almost a powder finish, and actually stays pretty well all day. The pressed powder was nice, not as refined (or triple-milled)as I normally like but it's also not $55, this stuff retails ...

Sometimes Ya Just Gotta Testify

There's this photographer that's got me all riled up, and I just want to shout it from the rooftops...... Andrea Lucero of "Thru Andi's Lens" What can I say about Andi? The enthusiasm, the respect, and the admiration I have for her is beyond compare. I've watched Andi grow as a person and then find her voice as an artist. This is no ordinary photographer ! In the 22 years that I have been working with the best photographers in the industry, it's rare that I see one that can capture , I mean REALLY "capture" someones soul the way that Andi can. I'm reminded of one of my favorites, Paolo Roversi, by the way that I feel that I can look into a picture of one of Andi's subjects and feel the empathy, the compassion, the love that they are feeling. I don't know too many photographers that can do that. Many culture's believe that a photographs "steal your soul", In Andi's case I like to think that you are hiring he...
